At the Power of Green Conference, we try our best to “walk the talk.” Here are some active steps we take to apply the principles of sustainability to the conference.

Carbon Neutral Conference
The Power of Green Conference is a carbon neutral event. We determine greenhouse gasses emitted as a result of our conference, taking into account the venue, delegates hotel stays, also air and road transportation. Using an accepted methodology, we purchase the corresponding value of carbon offsets that result in the conference being considered 100 per cent carbon neutral. This year, we are proud to invest in offsets through support of a local not-for-profit organization. The investment stays in our community and the organization will benefit from greater energy efficiency.

Local and Organic Foods
When planning the menu for the conference, extra effort is extended to ensure meals are prepared with local, seasonal and organic ingredients to the extent possible. Delegate feedback on the menu is always very positive.

Venue
Our venue has a number of eco-friendly programs in place. Features of the venue include an air filtration system, indoor and outdoor air quality monitoring sensors, digital temperature controls, water-conserving equipment, and energy-efficient lighting including several occupancy sensors. Environmental purchasing policies are followed, incorporating recognized product certifications. A comprehensive separation and recycling program is in place, and recycling containers are provided in public areas of the facility to encourage delegates to participate. Refillable water jugs are offered instead of bottled water. In addition, the venue is in a central location, accessible through public transportation.

Electronic Marketing
While we use various approaches to raise awareness of the conference, the majority of our promotion is achieved through electronic marketing. Background information in media kits is available on CD.

Website
Speakers can make their presentations available for download from our website following the conference, reducing the need for photocopies. This also allows for those unable to travel to the conference learn about the key findings presented. Our website is also used as a resource for sharing [green] ideas and best practices.

Recycling Principles
Our program is printed on recycled paper, delegate bags have been made from recycled materials, standard signage is used at future events, and so on.
