Darrell Hiltz - Municipality of the District of Chester
Darrell Hiltz provides leadership and direction to the team behind one of Canada's first eco-industrial parks, the Kaizer Meadow Environmental Management Centre.
When Hiltz took the reins as Chief Administrative Officer of the Municipality of the District of Chester in 2004, he noted the need to transform an existing first generation landfill into a modern, environmentally-sound waste management facility. As investments were made in the landfill, Hiltz began to wonder how value could be added to make the site more than just a waste management facility. This idea became the foundation for the Kaizer Meadow Environmental Management Centre, which is today comprised of one of the most technologically advanced waste management facilities in Canada, an eco-industrial park for green business, and a proposed training and research centre for environmental education.
Hiltz spent 30 years working for the Province of Nova Scotia where he served as Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Economic and Rural Development. He is a past chair of the Resource Recovery Fund Board.
