Guido Kerpel - New Castle Hotels & Resorts

Born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, Guido Kerpel started in the hospitality industry at the age of 15, while in high school, working at the Burno ‘O' Vat, an English tea garden in Scotland. Realizing that he would like to pursue a career in this business, Guido completed a one-year apprenticeship in both the kitchen and guest service disciplines of the hotel industry.

Athletic all of his life, Guido played on the provincial rugby team. While attending The Hague University, Guido also had a short exchange with another University in England and worked at the 1 Michelin Star Zwetheul Restaurant, as well as other hotels and restaurants. A one-year placement in Belgium preceded his graduation and completion of a BA in Hotel Management.

It was 1988 when Guido arrived in Canada and started in the position of Assistant Director of Food and Beverage for the Westin Prince. In 1990, he was promoted to Food and Beverage Director.

In 1992, Guido was part of the restructuring team for the Holiday Inn on King Street in Toronto. This hotel became very well known for hosting unique events. The team opened a Jazz Club at the hotel, which became very successful and in turn, the hotel received the Torch Bearer Award, which is awarded to the best hotel in the chain. While in Ontario, Guido attended the University of Guelph's AMPHI program for hospitality executives.

In 1996, Guido became the Hotel Manager of the Delta Ottawa Hotel & Suites. Transferred the following year, Guido was assigned to assist in the rejuvenation of the Delta Pacific Resort and Conference Center.

Guido moved to Nova Scotia in 1999 and accepted the position as General Manager of the Westin Nova Scotian. In 2002 Guido was instrumental in securing the management contract of Nova Scotia Signature Resorts for New Castle Hotels. Guido is Vice President for Canadian Region of New Castle Hotels properties. The Westin Nova Scotian, Nova Scotia Signature Resorts, The Residence Inn Moncton and most recently the Hampton Inn and Suites in Dartmouth have seen great success under his direction.
